In the passenger compartment, remove the wires from the differential lock indicator switch (see Replacement of the switch of a control lamp of blocking of differential).
We disconnect the flexible shaft of the speedometer drive from the transfer case (see Removing the flexible speedometer drive shaft), and for the VAZ-21214 also a speed sensor (see Removing the speed sensor).
Disconnect the front and rear driveshafts from the transfer case (see Removing the cardan shaft).
ring wrench «at 19» we unscrew the nut of the bolt of the flexible coupling to the gearbox flange, holding the bolt with a wrench of the same dimension.
Similarly, we turn off the nuts of the other two bolts.
collar (for diameter 135 mm) we crimp the elastic coupling so that the bolts can be removed.
In the absence of a long clamp, we use two shorter ones by inserting the tongue of one into the lock of the other.
We take out the bolts one at a time: we turn the elastic coupling so that the bolt extends into the cavity located on the left side of the rear cover of the gearbox.
We install an adjustable stop under the transfer case. We mark on the body the position of the two transfer case suspension brackets and unscrew the four bracket fastening nuts (see Removing the transfer box suspension bracket).
Lowering the emphasis and shifting the transfer case back, remove it together with the intermediate shaft.
The transfer case can also be removed without the intermediate shaft by disconnecting its attachment to the flange of the transfer case drive shaft (see Removing the intermediate shaft).
Install the transfer box in reverse order.
After installation, it must be centered. To do this, hang out the front and rear axles of the car. We substitute supports under the rear axle beam so that the rear axle takes the same position as it is when the car is on wheels. We turn on the transfer case, start the engine, turn on the direct gear of the gearbox and increase the engine speed. If vibration occurs in the transfer case, stop the engine and loosen the nuts securing the brackets of its suspension. By moving the transfer case, we achieve the elimination of its vibration when the engine is running (this may require shims that are installed between the brackets and the body). In this position, finally tighten the nuts securing the transfer box suspension brackets.
