Disassembling the starter 5722.3708 (VAZ-21214)

We clean the starter from dirt and install it in a vice.



Using a 13 mm spanner, unscrew the nut on the lower terminal of the traction relay.



We remove the wire.

Using an 8 mm socket, unscrew the two bolts securing the traction relay…



…and we take it off.

We remove the traction relay anchor.



Using a 10 mm spanner, unscrew the nuts of the tie rods.





We remove the stator together with the anchor from the cover studs.



Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws..



…and remove the back cover.



Remove the brush holder.




We take out the anchor.



We remove the central gear from the anchor shaft..



…and the anchor shaft support.



We take out three planetary gears.



Using a soft metal punch, we knock out the drive shaft..



…and remove it together with the drive shaft support and lever.



We remove the sealing gasket.

We install the drive shaft on a wooden stand.

We rest the jaws of the 14 mm open-end wrench on the limiting ring...



...and, hitting the key with a hammer, we press the limiting ring.



We pry off the locking ring with a screwdriver..



…and we take it off.



We remove the restrictive ring.



We remove the drive assembly.



We use pliers to open the retaining ring,…



…we take it off…



…and a washer ring with a washer.



To replace the brushes, we pry off the plastic covers..



…and the springs located underneath them.

We assemble the starter in reverse order.



Before installing the brush holder on the armature collector, remove all four springs so that the brushes "go" into the guides.



We insert the anchor with the brush holder on, the springs installed and their covers into the stator.
