- press the brake pedal with a force of 98-117.5 N (10-12 kgf), to ensure the fit of the pads to the drum;
- holding the pads in this position, turn the eccentrics A and B by the hexagon sockets (pic. 6-5) in the indicated direction until they come into contact with the pads;
- release the brake pedal and turn the adjusting eccentrics in the opposite direction by about 10°;
- sharply press the brake pedal 3-4 times and, with the pedal released, rotate the hung wheels, while the pads should not touch the drums.
Pic. 6-5. Scheme for adjusting the gap between the pads and the brake drum: A - adjusting eccentrics of the front pads; B - adjusting eccentrics of the rear pads. The top arrows show the direction of the car; s - left wheel; d - right wheel
After adjustment, it is recommended to drive 5-7 km without using the brakes, stop and make sure by touch that the brake drums do not heat up from the friction of the pads. If the drums become very hot, indicating friction between the shoes and the drum, repeat the adjustment.
If the adjustment does not establish the required clearance between the shoes and the drum, remove the brake drum, check the condition of the shoes and the drum, if necessary, replace or repair worn parts and repeat the adjustment after assembly.
