Removing
1. We prepare the car for work and disconnect the terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Drain the engine coolant (see "Coolant - replacement").
3. Remove the air filter (see "Air filter - removal and installation").
4. Remove the intake manifold and exhaust manifold from the engine (see "Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold of the engine 2111 (1,5i 8v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement", or see "21114 engine intake manifold and exhaust manifold (1,6i 8v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement").
Comment.If necessary, the cylinder head can be removed complete with parts of the power system and the exhaust manifold.
5. Remove the cylinder head cover (see "Cylinder head cover for 2111 and 21114 engines (8v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement").
6. On engines with a camshaft position sensor, disconnect the wiring harness block from this sensor (see "Camshaft Position Sensor - Check and Replace").
7. Disconnect high voltage wires from spark plugs (see "High voltage wires for motors 2111 and 21114 (8v) - check and replacement").
8. Disconnect the wire tip from the coolant temperature sensor (see "Coolant temperature sensor - check and replace"). For convenience, disconnect the wiring harness block from the knock sensor (see "Knock sensor - check and replacement") and move the sensor wiring harness to the side.
9. Disconnect the wire tip from the coolant temperature indicator sensor (see "Coolant temperature gauge sensor - check and replace").
10. socket wrench by 13 mm unscrew the wire fastening nut "weight" to the engine and remove the wire end from the stud.
11. socket wrench by 13 mm unscrew the two nuts securing the thermostat housing.
12. Remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head studs and, without disconnecting the hoses, take it aside.
13. Remove the sealing gasket.
14. We unscrew the nut and bolt of the upper fastening of the rear cover of the timing belt (see "Coolant pump - replacement").
14. Key Torx E14 Remove 10 cylinder head bolts.
15. Slightly pulling the rear cover of the timing belt to the side, remove the cylinder head.
16. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
17. We take out two guide bushings from the seats.
Installation
1. We wash the cylinder head from dirt and deposits with kerosene or diesel fuel.
2. Remove from the threaded holes of the cylinder block (for head bolts) residual oil and coolant.
3. We clean the mating planes of the head and cylinder block from the remnants of the old gasket, degrease the planes with a solvent.
Warning! Always use a new gasket when installing the cylinder head. Oil must not get on the surface of the gasket
4. We install the guide bushings of the head in the seats of the cylinder block.
5. We lay a gasket on the cylinder block, while the guide bushings must enter the corresponding holes in the gasket.
6. Install the head on the cylinder block. Slightly moving the head from side to side, we ensure that the guide bushings enter the corresponding holes in the head.
Warning! Reuse of cylinder head bolts is only allowed if their length does not exceed 135.5 mm
7. With a caliper or locksmith's ruler, we measure the length of the bolts. Bolts longer than 135.5 mm are replaceable.
8. Before wrapping, we dip the threaded part of the bolts into engine oil, after which we let the oil drain, after waiting about half an hour.
9. We install bolts with washers in the holes of the head.
10. Using a torque wrench, tighten the head mounting bolts (in the sequence shown in the photo) in four steps:
- tighten the bolts to a torque of 20 Nm (2 kgf·m);
- tighten the bolts to a torque of 69.4-85.7 N·m (7.1-8.7 kgf·m);
- we tighten the bolts by 90°;
- turn the screws 90°again.

11. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
