Checking and adjusting the front wheel alignment angles (VAZ-21213)

Checking and adjusting the front wheel alignment angles is performed on special stands in accordance with the stand instructions.

Warning: Checking the wheel alignment is mandatory if replacement or repair of suspension components is carried out that may result in a change in the wheel alignment.


Check and adjust the wheel alignment angles on the vehicle under a static load of 3140 N (320 kgf) (four people and 40 kg in the trunk).

When checking and adjusting the front wheel alignment angles, it is necessary to be guided by the parameters specified in Table 4-1.

Before adjusting the wheel alignment angles, check:
  • tire pressure;
  • axial clearance in front wheel hub bearings;
  • serviceability of shock absorbers (no sticking of rods);
  • radial and axial runout of tires;
  • clearance in suspension ball joints;
  • free play of the steering wheel.

Correct any detected faults and make the necessary adjustments.

After installing the car on the stand, immediately before checking the corners, it is necessary to "squeeze" the car's suspension, applying 2-3 times a force of 392-490 N (40-50 kgf), directed from top to bottom, first on the rear and then on the front bumper.



The order of checking and adjusting the wheels should be as follows:
  • 1. Angle of longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation.
  • 2. Camber angle.
  • 3. Convergence.

Note: The data is given for washers with a thickness of 0.75 mm. Plus - adding a washer, minus - removing a washer.


To adjust the longitudinal tilt angle of the steering axis:
  • loosen the nuts securing the axle of the upper arm of the front suspension and move the washers from one bolt to the other until the normal angle value is obtained. The longitudinal tilt angle of the steering axis increases when moving the washers from the rear bolt to the front and decreases when moving them in the opposite direction;
  • tighten the nuts with a torque wrench and check that the longitudinal inclination angle of the steering axis is correct.

If the camber angle differs from the norm, it is necessary to adjust it by changing the number of washers 50 (fig. 4-1), installed between the upper arm axle and the crossmember bracket.


To decrease the camber angle, remove the same number of washers from both bolts, and to increase it, add more.

Front wheel alignment



If the toe-in value differs from the norm, it is necessary to loosen the side rod clamps and use key 67.7813.9504 to turn both couplings by the same amount in opposite directions; in this way the couplings are screwed on or off and change the length of the side rods.

After adjustment, install the clamping clamps with the slot facing backwards, with an acceptable downward deviation of 60° to the horizontal plane of the vehicle. When the nuts are tightened, the edges of the clamping clamp slots should not touch.

After adjusting the wheel alignment, check whether the wheels and steering gear parts are touching the adjacent parts of the wheel suspension and body. To do this, turn the wheels in both directions until the pitman arm stops against the steering gear housing mounting bolts.
