The car uses a cardan transmission (pic. 29), which consists of an intermediate, front, rear cardan shafts and cardan joints.
Pic. 29. Cardan gear:
1, 2, 4 - intermediate, front, rear cardan shafts; 3 - cardan joint.
Intermediate cardan shaft (pic. thirty) connects the output shaft of the gearbox with. transfer case drive shaft. The flange 4 of the intermediate shaft through the cross 5 and the flange-fork 8 is connected to the drive shaft of the transfer case. A rubber elastic coupling 1 is attached to the flange 4 with three bolts 3, which in turn is attached to the flange mounted on the end of the output shaft of the gearbox with three bolts. Mutual centering of the flange 4 and the output shaft of the gearbox is provided by the sleeve 9, which includes a centering ring fixed on the secondary shaft. Elastic clutch 1 allows you to transmit torque with minor changes in the angle between the shafts of the gearbox and transfer case, protects transmission parts from dynamic shock and reduces noise and vibration of the driveline during operation.
Pic. 30. Intermediate cardan shaft:
a - assembled; b - details:
1 - elastic coupling; 2 - balancing washer; 3 - bolt; 4 - flange; 5 - cross; 6 - retaining ring; 7 - needle bearing; 8 - fork flange; 9 - centering sleeve.
Front and rear driveshafts connect the drive shafts of the front and rear axles of the transfer case with the drive shafts of the main gears of these axles.
Each cardan shaft 7 (pic. 31) made of a thin-walled steel pipe, at one end of which a fork 8 of the universal joint is welded, and at the other end - a splined tip 9. A sliding fork 4 of the universal joint is installed on the tip. The spline connection of the tip 9 and the fork 4 allows you to compensate for the change in the length of the driveline when the drive axle is moved while the car is moving.
Pic. 31. Front driveshaft:
1 - flange-plug; 2 - retaining ring; 3 - needle bearing; 4 - sliding fork; 5 - stuffing box; 6 - stuffing box holder; 7 - cardan shaft; 8 - fork; 9 - tip; 10 - cork; 11 - cross; 12 - stuffing box.
Cardan joint transfers rotation from one shaft to another with a changing angle between the shafts.
Cardan joint (see fig. 31) consists of two forks 1 and 4, interconnected by a crosspiece 11. Needle bearings 5 are installed on the spikes of the crosspiece, which are sealed with oil seals 12 and fixed in the holes of the fork with retaining rings 2.
